Cheryl Harnest is a writer-performer/teacher/coach

Originally from Texas, now residing in Manhattan, Cheryl – spawn of a reverend father and a sex-educator mother, brings her playful viewpoint and passion to each area of focus.

WRITER-PERFORMER

SACRED IS THE NEW PROFANE is her solo show which chronicles a journey from drama queen to dharma queen. The show was Winner of the Midtown International Theatre Festival Award for Outstanding Overall Production of a Solo Show and was remounted in the Women@Work Festival at Stage Left Studio.

Cheryl also wrote and performed a solo show entitled, MOTHERLOAD, produced in Los Angeles, CA and at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. The LA Weekly said: “Harnest stripes her victims with comic skid marks.

Cheryl received her MFA in Dramatic Writing at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, and was artist-in-residence at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts. Her full-length play, SCARED CLOUDS, has had staged readings in Ensemble Studio Theater’s Octoberfest, as well as Naked Angel’s Writers’ Forum.

Cheryl also performs stand-up in clubs such as The STAND, Stand-Up NY and Gotham Comedy Club.

COACH

Cheryl is a Certified Radical Forgiveness Coach, her approach incorporates a sense a humor and acceptance of oneself while engaging in the often serious work of self-transformation.  She combines the technology of Radical Forgiveness with meditative self inquiry practices and creative tools such as improvisation, music and journaling. Offering the ability to track patterns with focused clarity, she provides a safe space for clients to release entrenched emotions and recreate the story of their lives.

TEACHER

As a Teaching Artist, she works with organizations such as; Bright Kids Club – Youth Learning Through Play, 144 Music and Arts, the Jewish Community Center and Periwinkle National Theatre.

Working in the New York City public school system creating theatre projects with inner city kids, grades K-12, has convinced her of the power of the arts to transform and enhance our lives.

She also conducts on-going writing workshops designed to support self-realization and spiritual growth with a sense of irreverent reverence.
